Radio Zamaneh - Less than two days before the official opening of Bushehr Nuclear Plant, Russia defended its role in the construction of the plant.
AFP reports that Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister said: “Iran has assured us that it will use the plant’s atomic energy for non-military purposes.”
In a meeting yesterday in Georgia, Lavrov addressed the opponents of the launch of Bushehr Plant telling them to return to the words of George Bush, the former US president who said that the plan to build Bushehr power plant is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with Iran especially in the field of nuclear interaction.
Bushehr Power plant will start operation on Saturday, August 21.
It is scheduled to receive its fuel injection which according to head of Iran’s Atomic Agency, Ali Akbar Salehi, was transferred inside the building on August 16.
Iranian officials have announced that the Bushehr Plant will start power production by September.
Sergei Kiriyenko, head of Russian Atomic Agency will be present in the opening ceremony of the plant.
The news of the opening of the plant has drawn various international comments. US officials have indicated that with the opening of the Bushehr Plant Iran will no longer need its controversial enrichment program, but other analysts have touched on the possibility of an Israeli attack against the plant.
Even John Bolton, former US ambassador to the UN, said last Tuesday that Israel has only mere days to launch an attack on Bushehr nuclear plant.
Ramin Mehmanparast responded to Bolton’s comment saying: “Damaging a plant like Bushehr Power Plant which has real nuclear fuel, is against international regulations.”
The West suspects Iran of pursuing the development of nuclear weapons in the guise of its peaceful nuclear activities but Iran has repeatedly denied these allegations.
