Three Citizens Arrested for Chanting in Roudaki Street

Rahana/2011-03-02 - Three citizens arrested for chanting in Roudaki Street - and other reportsThe security forces have arrested 3 citizens who were chanting in Roudaki Street on March 1st.

 

The 3 individuals were chanting along with others but were confronted with the security forces and detained. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, one of them was released but the other two were transferred to the police vans.

Earlier, 4 citizens were arrested in Keshavarz Street.


Reza Izadi, Faculty Member of Ghazali College in Qazvin, Arrested

Reza Izadi, faculty member of the Ghazali College in Qazvin, has been disappeared since February 14th.

His disappearance has taken place while he had previously been detained. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, he had been summoned by the security forces several times. He has been disappeared since February 14th and none of his students have been allowed to contact him. He had once been detained in 2009 and had been released on bail after 2 months in Ward 209 of Evin Prison.


Qazvin University Student Ali Bayani Arrested

Qazvin International University student Ali Bayani has been in detention since February 14th.

Qazvin University student Ali Bayani has been transferred to prison since February 14th. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, he was also a member of Karroubi’s Campaign. There has been no information on his condition.


Baha’i Citizen Arrested in Salman Shahr

Badiollah Lohrasb, Baha’i citizen of Salman Shahr, has been arrested in February.

Badiollah Lohrasb, Baha’i citizen of Salman Shahr, has been arrested by the Intelligence Ministry agents on February 29th.  According to the Human Rights House of Iran, his wife has been able to talk to him over the phone twice.


Concerns over Mehdi Kouhkan’s Condition

There are concerns as to the condition of Ward 350 detainee Mehdi Kouhkan.

Mehdi Kouhkan who has been imprisoned since February of last year has been suffering from severe knee problems for months. He has been deprived of medical attention. His condition is worrisome to the extent that he has fallen on the ground several times and has been suffering from severe pain. He is in need of surgery but the authorities have prevented it.

He was arrested last year along with Mohsen Sadeghi and Ebrahim Babaei for founding a group. The other two individuals were released on bail but Kouhkan is still in prison since he cannot afford the bail money.


Bagher Oskouie Held Incommunicado for 2 Weeks

Bagher Oskouie, head of the youth branch of the Etemadeh Melli Party, has been arrested since February 14th and has not contacted his family since then.

Bagher Oskouei who has been arrested since 2 weeks ago is in prison limbo and no one has any information in regards to his condition.

He was arrested on February 14th after the security forces raided and searched his house.  During the presidential elections, he was an activist for Karroubi’s Campaign.


Two Citizens Arrested in Saghez

Two citizens by the names of Vafa Moradi and Sadigh Hasani have been arrested by the security forces.

Vafa Moradi and Sadigh Hasani, who reside in a village in Saghez were arrested and transferred to prison last week. There has been no information as to the alleged charges.


Baha’i Citizen Peyman Kashfi Began Serving Sentence

Baha’i citizen Peyman Kashfi was detained on February 14th in order to being serving his 4 year prison sentence.

Judge Moghayeseh had sentenced him to 4 years in prison for membership in anti-regime groups (belonging to the Baha’i faith).

The Human Rights House of Iran reports that his sentence was upheld by the appeals court. He had been detained in October of last year and was later released on bail.


Baha’i Citizen Payam Aghsani Fined and Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison

Baha’i resident of Tehran Payam Aghsani has been sentenced to a $400 fine and 3 years in prison.

In January of 2008, he had been detained along with 11 other Baha’is and his house had been searched by the security forces. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, he was released on bail after 2 months of solitary confinement. Aghsani, 32, has been sentenced to a $400 fine and 3 years in prison.


Concerns over the Condition of Detained Student Activist Hossein Salemkar

There is no information as to the condition of Sharif University of Technology student Hossein Salemkar.

In a phone conversation with his family, Salemkar has informed them of his arrest but has said that he is not allowed to reveal his whereabouts. According to the Human Rights House of Iran, his family had been told that the name of their son is not included the list of the 654 Evin Prison detainees and no case has been filed for him.

He may have been arrested by the IRGC Intelligence Unit and may be held in the IRGC-run Ward 2A of Evin Prison.


Five Years of Imprisonment for Ehsan Abdeh-Tabrizi

The appeals court has upheld the 5 years imprisonment sentence for political activist Ehsan Abdeh-Tabrizi.

He had previously been sentenced to 7 years in prison which was reduced to 5 years in prison. He was acquitted from the charge of collaborating with foreigners and sentenced for insulting the Supreme Leader, and assembly and conspiracy. He has been in prison for 14 months and deprived of furlough.


Iranian opposition figures Mohammad Nourizad and Abdollah Ramazanzadeh called back to prison

Mohammad Nourizad and Abdollah Ramazanzadeh have been called back to prison.

Government critics Mohammad Nourizad and Abdollah Ramazanzadeh have been called back to the Islamic Republic prison after having been released on bail.

Ramazanzadeh, an executive member of the reformist group Islamic Iran Participation Front, was called back to Evin Prison on Saturday.

Ramazanzadeh was arrested in the post-election clampdown on reformists and sentenced to six years in prison on three charges: “activities against national security”, “propaganda against the regime” and “keeping classified information.”

A senior member of the Participation Front, Mohammadreza Khatami, had this comment: “Abdollah Ramazanzadeh returned to Evin Prison, which has been filled with Greens. He was told that he had to give a public interview and issue an announcement condemning the February 14 protests and the Islamic Iran Participation Front or return to prison. He chose to do the right thing rather than sell his freedom and pride.”

The protest movement that has taken shape following the allegations of fraud in the re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the 2009 has come to known as the Green Movement.

Nourizad, an Iranian journalist and filmmaker, was also called back to prison following his leave on bail.

Nourizad has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison and 50 lashes for writing letters to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, that were critical of the leader’s reaction to post-election developments. He is charged with “propaganda against the regime and insulting officials.”


Student Activists Milad Taheri and Danial Zargarian Arrested

Following the February 14th and February 20th events, the security forces have arrested several student activists in Babol.

Student activists Milad Taheri and Danial Zargarian, were arrested by the security forces on February 20th and February 14th respectively and transferred to an undisclosed location.

Mohsen Barzegar, Iman Sadighi, Sarah Bagheri, Ali Yazdanpanah, Hossein Zamen-Zarabi, Ramtin Meghdadi and several other students have also been arrested in the recent days.
