Insideofiran/2009-11-30 - Current Iranian regime views all groups of society that have a different view, on Islam and that stand for individual freedom and tolerance, as its enemy. It uses all resources available to it, whether it is national media or military force, to suppress freedom of thought and expression. It views its own myopic, intolerant interpretation of Islam as the only right view and everyone in the country must stand behind the official view or suffer the consequences. This means that any group which opposes the radical, intolerant and fundamentalist view held by the regime faces suppression through persecution, legal prosecution and incarceration. Furthermore, the regime considers any attempt by minorities to use their legal rights to stand up to this suppression as a hostile attack on the regimes fundamentalist doctrine. A good example of this is the recent article written on one of the regimes websites which not only attacks a persecuted Sufi master for attempting to use the law as means of protection but also use this opportunity to put further pressure on the Sufi community by encouraging the regime to crack down on the Sufis by any means it has in its disposal and uses false rumours, innuendo and fear tactics as means of  putting an end to people joining or supporting the Sufi community.

Here is brief translation of the article in weblog called Kherghe blog:

Yousef Mardani’s (Sufi Master of Gonabadi Sufi order) complaint against an opponent of Sufism :

Sina Azizi who is the director of “Sufian Saloos” weblog  which is a weblog dedicated to enemies of Sufism was convicted for disturbing the peace and encouraging the hatred and persecution of Sufis after a complaint was lodged by Mr Mardani’s sons.

Even though the sentence is not final and is subject to an appeal, some points are worth noting:

1 – It about two years that Mr. Mardani has been subject of complaint by authorities for insulting the clergy and, stirring the public mindset, and for installing without prior permission cameras outside Sufi’s house of worship. However, Mr Mardani has yet to respond to this complaint...The authorities in Karaj (Home town of Mr Maradni) have recently revisited this complaint in order to examine its legal validity (which we are certain is valid) and to see if of Mr Mardani should be prosecuted for this violation. The law should not ignored by Mr Mardani or his followers,

2-Sufi weblogs are filled with insults to national authority, security, and religious figures. If one visits  Sufi weblogs like “Majzobean Nour”  one can see that these sites are filled with doctrine of group named as the “National Reform Movement” (whose members include the present head of Gonabadi Sufi order). These sites are filled with direct and indirect attacks on the regime, its authority figures and religious beliefs of the people. Such directs attacks have to be stopped and God willing a stiff complaint on behalf of the public will soon be made against these attacks and those in charge of these weblogs.

3-Gonabadi Sufi’s have directly drawn their swords against the Islamic Republic even though some patriotic Sufis are against direct political involvement and oppose foreign (such as British and French) involvement in national concerns the leaders of the Sufi orders such Dr Seyed Mostfa Azmayesh (who is friend of the Baha’i movement aboard) through his proclamations continually attacks the regime and its figures and attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Islamic Republic. Therefore, a new effort is required in order to put a stop to Sufi movement as a whole.

Even though the complaint of Mr Mardani against Mr Azizi is under subject of an appeal there are still patriotic people in country who have announced that even if his convicted they are willing to pay his fine so that he will not be imprisoned
